The Sounds of Iowa

Your family may not share the same taste in music, but you can share its Iowa heritage.

Find Iowa's musical roots by checking out the historic rock 'n' roll landmark Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, where music legends Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper played their final shows during the Winter Dance Party. The event still takes place each February and features big-name entertainers.

Retrace the steps of music giants on their climb to the top by visiting birthplaces of famous orchestra leader Glenn Miller in Clarinda or singer and TV show host Andy Williams in Wall Lake.

Or, "flick your Bic" for an encore after experiencing the Iowa Rock 'n' Roll Association Museum in Okoboji.

There's nothing like catching one of the 150 music performances held each year at the River Music Experience in Davenport.

When your kids say "That was cool!" it will be music to your ears.
