For a third straight year, Central Iowa’s Independent Bookstore Day celebrations will expand, as two new bookstores open up in the Des Moines metro area. In total, nine central Iowa bookstores have joined together to plan a weekend of literary festivities, April 27th-28th, in recognition of the unique relationships they hold with their communities and area readers. The Little Book made its debut in February. Also new to the Des Moines literary scene is Nos Books, a bookstore specializing in Spanish language books and diverse stories. Both ventures will join seven established independent bookstores in a collective celebration of Independent Bookstore Day: Dog-Eared Books in Ames; Dungeon’s Gate and Raccoon River Press in Ankeny; Beaverdale Books and Storyhouse Bookpub in Des Moines; Reading in Public in West Des Moines, and Pageturners Bookstore in Indianola. The feature offering of the weekend celebration will be the ever-popular, annual road-trip passport challenge, in which customers will be tasked with visiting eight of the participating bookstores, with an optional bonus visit to Nos Books. Those who complete their passport will be entered into a drawing for a $100 gift card from the bookstore to which they turn in their passport. Throughout the weekend, each business will offer special events, exclusive books and gifts, and many more fun perks. For more information, please reference the contact and social media information for each of the participating bookstores.
