Civil War Days
Friday, May 31, 2024 - Sunday, June 2, 2024
One of our largest celebrations of the year! The college grounds are transformed and taken back in time to the late 1860's. Featuring: Actors in period dress, Functioning military encampments, A Civil War battle field and battle with narration by a Union General, A ball in the gym, Mid-morning Tea in Clarke Hall, A period church service, Skill and craft demonstrations, A period artisans market, Old fashion candy merchant, Kids games and a favorite the pie eating contest. This experience allows for immersion that brings history to life. There are a few modern day comforts, food, ice cream and coffee featuring local businesses. The event kicks off Friday Night: featuring a community gathering with a ball and stone soup. Followed by guided flashlight tours through the buildings. Saturday: Starts kicks off with a Pancake breakfast, followed by the Mid-morning tea and parade. Then the festivities at the campus begin, the battle takes place at 3! The celebration concludes quietly on Sunday with a period Church service in the Museum's Church. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the natural beauty of the grounds and connect with the amazing historian re-enactors who have come to join us from all across the Midwest.
