Eve Drewelowe (1899-1988) was born in New Hampton, Iowa, and became the first person to receive a master of arts degree from the University of Iowa in 1924. She spent most of her adult life in Boulder, Colorado, where she was a passionate and prolific painter. While her subject matter ranged from dynamic mountain landscapes in the 1930s and 1940s to lively abstracts on distinctive round canvases from 1950s through the 1980s, Drewelowe’s vibrant palette and bold use of line created a distinctive style that still resonates today. This exhibition celebrates the dramatic Western landscape paintings Drewelowe created primarily in the first half of her career and to which she returned again toward the end of her life.
