The city of Farragut is named after Admiral David Farragut, and all town streets are named after either a ship he served on or a battle he was involved in during the Civil War.
Farragut is a great base for exploring the Admiral Trail and nearby Waubonsie State Park.
The Admiral Trail is a 10-foot wide, surfaced trail along the rail right-of-way for the former BNSF rail corridor between Farragut and Highway 2 near Shenandoah, Iowa. The City of Farragut purchased the rail corridor in 2017.
The trail is open to all uses such as walking, running, hiking, snowmobiling, bird watching, off-road biking, wildlife viewing, and geocaching.
