Laurens was the home of Alvin Straight, a 73-year-old man famous for traveling 240 miles on a lawnmower. His story was made into the film The Straight Story (1999), starring Richard Farnsworth (Nominated for Oscar) and Sissy Spacek; the film was partly made in Laurens.

Take a step back in time at the Pocahontas County Historical Society Museum. Free, guided tours are available! The museum is located in City Park, which also has outdoor musical instruments to amuse all ages..

Sportsman’s Park is an ideal spot for some outdoor fun. This Laurens hub features a trail, disc golf, campground, playground equipment and a fishing pond. The park is also the trailhead for the Laurens Prairie Preservation Trail. Or head to Laurens Golf and Country Club to test your golf game.
