Must Do's:
Any visit to Shenandoah must include visiting the Everly Brothers Childhood home, and be sure to drive out on Highway 2 to see the giant mural of Don and Phil Everly which opened in 2022. Shenandoah is also home to the Iowa Walk of Fame, which has more than 150 tile plaques throughout the town honoring many native Iowans.
Make sure you leave time to visit the Veterans Memorial Museum and the Greater Shenandoah Historical Society, which features exhibits about Homer the Mammoth and Shenandoah’s deep radio roots.
Outdoor Adventures & Exciting Eateries
A great meal awaits at the Depot Deli and Microbrewery, located in a historic train depot filled with memorabilia from days gone by. The Depot offers three meals a day plus its home-brewed root beers and cream sodas. New to Shenandoah is Sugar Makery and its delicious fudge, chocolates and other sweet treats. El Porton Mexican Grill is open daily for lunch and evening meals or for happy hour any day. Elm Street Grill, located in the Shenandoah Golf Course, is also open year-round.
The Wabash Trace Nature Trail runs through Shenandoah in Sportsmans Park, Waubonsie Park and exits town next to Rosehill Cemetery. The trail runs 63 miles and is mostly flat with crushed limestone. The city of Shenandoah prides itself with ample outdoor activities, including the Wilson Aquatic Center, Shenandoah Golf Course and 18 city parks and recreation centers. Rapp Park was a former sand quarry developed into a 200-acre wetland; head here for year-round fishing or bird watching. There's also camping, hiking and kayaking activities on offer.

Don's miss Shenfest, held anually in late September. The Shenandoah Garden City Farmers' Market is a popular event held typically from late May through October at Priest Park. Arts and culture are also strong with the Southwest Iowa Theatre Group offering several live performances each year. And the Wabash Arts Camp Mural Tour is a self-guided tour of murals made by participants of the summer camp.
