Winterset is also the birthplace of American film icon John Wayne, and the award-winning John Wayne Birthplace & Museum is the only museum in the world dedicated to the legendary actor. Dive even more into area history at the Madison County Historical Complex or the Iowa Quilt Museum. As you explore the breathtaking town square, be sure to stop by the historic Iowa Theater. Or embrace Iowa flavors at the Covered Bridges Winery and the Winterset Cidery.
