Next up, experience an unique piece of Iowa history by visiting the Historic Squirrel Cage Jail. This rare 1885 three-story Victorian Gothic-style brick jail is one of only three rotary cell jails left in existence. Step inside to learn about the jail’s beginnings and noteworthy inmates and to see the rare pie-shaped cells.

Do: Bregant House

For a more slow paced adventure, stop by the historic Bregant House, also known as the “Little People’s House.” Built in 1912 for former Vaudeville performers Jean and Inez Bregant to accommodate their heights of 42” and 39”, the home’s miniature features amaze visitors year-round. It features a shorter fireplace mantel, four-foot-long bathtub, lowered light switches and thermostat along with photos and artifacts. 
 

Eat: Sugar Makery

Finally, grab a sweet treat for the road at the Sugar Makery. This family-owned sweet shop satisfies all sweet-tooths with its collection of popcorn, candy, ice cream, and over 200 glass bottle soda varieties along with homemade chocolate, butter and cream fudge.
