1948 National Plowing Matches Site
Outdoor marker is located North of Dexter. Dexter was chosen to host the 1948 National Plowing Match. They invited Gov. Dewey to be their main speaker, but he declined. So they asked the President if he’d consider coming. President Truman, his wife Bess, daughter Margaret, and other dignitaries, including Plowing Match Princess made the trip to Dexter. The President was met by ten acres of humanity, estimated at 100,000 people.
