The Algona Recreation Trail is an urban trail that takes riders, walkers, bikers or bladers through residential areas and past a farm field. Phase 1 of trail starts at Williams Park/Algona Family YMCA and heads east along State Street to Tietz Park. From there walkers/bikers may use the sidewalks along E. State St. and Richardson Court to get to where the trail restarts. Walkers/bikers then will head north until they reach the bull ditch area, turning west along the ditch, crossing Finn Drive and then ending at Clarke St. The trail is signed and marked. Total length of the trail is 1.3 miles. Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the trail connect at the bull ditch area. Phase 2 is a .8 mile stretch that includes a beautiful bridge that spans the bull ditch and continues north on Finn Drive and then west on Poplar St. It turns north and runs along the east edge of the Bishop Garrigan High School athletic fields. A trail head and concrete parking lot are located at Tietz Park. A rock parking area is also available near the AMU substation on Finn Drive.
