The Bertha Bartlett Public Library was dedicated on July 2, 1995. Story City's library origins date to 1922 when the Greater Chamber Congress and Newera Club worked together to create a start-up library. In 1987, a Friends of the Library organization was formed to study the community's needs. That led the construction of the current facility, named for long-time library director Bertha Bartlett. She volunteered in the early years of Story City's first library before being hired as director. She served in that capacity from 1927 to 1964.
