Chinkapin Bluffs Recreation Area

A 414-acre County Park located southeast of Columbus Junction. Hike, bike, have a picnic and be sure to take time to look at the view of the Iowa River Valley from the overlook. This area has a modern playground, a reservable picnic shelter with a fireplace and grill, a composting toilet and water available. There is a two-mile segment of the Hoover Nature Trail that bisects the property and connects to the park trails. There is a new Trailhead for easy access to the Hoover Nature Trail within the Louisa County Fairgrounds. Simply pull into the Louisa County Fairgrounds off HWY 92 and drive all the way to the back. The trailhead is just west of the grandstands. This is a beautiful place to explore in every season. Hunting is allowed - wear blaze orange if you are out and about during hunting seasons.
