The EB Lyons Interpretive Center serves as a visitors center and park office. It offers displays and exhibits that provide information about the history and features of the area. The Center has a children's activity room with live animals native to Iowa, a bird viewing room, a lead mining display, and much more. Outside the Center visitors will find bird and butterfly gardens, hiking trails, restored prairies, picnic areas, restrooms, and the Woodland Walk Picnic Shelter. The 1432-acre recreation area of the Mines of Spain forms around the center. It is located along the southern edge of Dubuque. The eastern boundary is formed by the Mississippi River. The center is open year round with a series of programs and events hosted by the environmental education staff. Picnicking facilities are available at the Center, the Julien Dubuque Monument, and the Horseshoe Bluff Area.
