Forest Grove School Preservation

Show Contact Information +
Forest Grove NO. 5 is a rehabilitated one-room schoolhouse just off of Interstate 80 (exit 301) in Bettendorf, IA. The schoolhouse was built in 1873 and served as a place of learning and community gathering place until it closed in 1957. The school and it's "famous" swings sit on their original site and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Forest Grove is also a partner site of Silos and Smokestacks National Heritage Area, telling the story of American Agriculture. A 10 minute award winning museum film brings to life the stories of former students and teachers. The film also shows the remarkable transformation of the once rundown building into it's 1920's glory. Hours: Saturdays 9:30 a.m. until Noon - Memorial Day - Labor Day. Open anytime by appointment - Call 563-332-5859 and leave a message or email FGS1873@gmail.com Admission is always free, donations are accepted
