Amtrak's Southwest Chief traveling between Chicago, IL and Los Angeles, CA makes its only Iowa stop in Fort Madison. Eastbound #4 headed for Galesburg, Chicago and intermediate stops between, departs Fort Madison at 10:49 a.m. daily. Westbound #3, bound for Kansas City, Albuquerque, Flagstaff, Los Angeles and intermediate stops along the way, departs Fort Madison at 6:30pm daily. Tickets may be purchased at the station for travel to or from anywhere in the Amtrak network. Bring your lawn chairs or use one of benches at the depot and take in the Mighty Mississippi River while doing some railfanning.
