Grammer Grove Wildlife Area

Show Contact Information +
Grammer Grove provides a place for recreation and outdoor education. This 121 acre wildlife refuge is a popular area for tent campers, bird and wildlife watchers, hikers, and picnickers. The many diverse habitat types offer numerous opportunities to view wildlife. A unique feature of Grammer Grove is an enormous granite boulder called a "glacial erratic." One Million years ago the Kansan Glacier, a piece of ice that was hundreds to thousands of feet thick, covered Marshall County. As the glacier melted and slowly receded it left melted ice, soil, wood, and boulders on our landscape from areas as far away as Canada. This large granite boulder is a remnant of the last glacier that covered Grammer Grove. Grammer Grover also is site to the Iowa River which flows through the northwest section of the park.
