Heron Bend is home to the Lee County Conservation Nature Center, a 322-acre property located between Fort Madison and Montrose, right off of Highway 61. Enjoy hiking trails that wind through prairies, wetlands, and wooded forests, or take advantage of the river access to the majestic Mississippi River, perfect for boaters and fishermen. Inside the nature center, explore a plethora of native Iowa taxidermy animals, engage in games and participate in nature-inspired activities. The natural playground features a red-eared climbing turtle and an eagle's nest, providing a fun and immersive experience for all ages. Lee County Conservation manages 30 individual parks, wildlife areas, historic sites, and water recreation access points - encompassing some 2,796 acres across the county. LCC offers a wide variety of environmental education programs and outdoor recreational opportunities, including camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, kayaking, swimming and more!
