The Mental Health Institute (MHI) opened its doors in 1873 and is the oldest functioning psychiatric facility in the State of Iowa. Enjoy exploring the beautiful architecture and grounds. The Days of Yore museum- open by appointment- tells the history of MHI from its inception and gives a picture of mental health treatment over the years.
