Larry Schlue Memorial Sound Park
A fully interactive outdoor experience for all, custom designed by international multimedia artist John Schlue. Every component in the park creates a different percussive sound when activated. Featuring four massive 10' monoliths, whisper dishes, and other percussive instruments—sounds that emanate through the space echo off the adjacent buildings. Flat grade concrete pathways facilitate easy accessibility for visitors with limited mobility. Native plantings provide a greenspace built atop the site of a long-demolished butcher shop located at the gateway to Belle Plaine's historic downtown district. Completed in 2019, the community chose to dedicate the sound park to the artist's father Larry Schlue, a lifelong community leader.
