One of the first areas ever acquired by the Butler County Conservation Board is the Shell Rock Recreation Area, which is located on the west edge of Shell Rock. Approximately 130 acres in size, this area features both a recreational area for the enjoyment of humans and a wildlife area as a safe place for wildlife.
Shell Rock Recreation Area offers pond and river fishing and a replanted prairie. The pond has an accessible fishing dock and a fish cleaning shed.
There are 27 electrical hookup posts that can accommodate multiple camping units each along with several tent camping areas.
You will also find boat and canoe access, modern restroom/shower facility, picnic shelters, horseshoe pits, and a playground.
