Summer of the Arts

Founded in 2005, Summer of the Arts is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring people together in the Iowa City Area to experience, learn about, and enjoy free arts and cultural programming. Arts access is key to our mission: all of our events are free for everyone to enjoy. We offer seven different events throughout the year. Some of our events have been around for 30, 40, and 50 years and are foundational in making the downtown Iowa City arts scene what it is today, including the Iowa Arts Festival, Iowa City Jazz Festival, Friday Night Concert Series, and the Holiday Thieves Market. Since 2020, we have offered neighborhood- and park-based programming, including Rhythms at Riverfront Crossings, Music on the Move, Drive-In Movies at the Hangar. As we like to say, we've got all kind of arts, jazz, movies, music and fun for all kinds of people!
