Thomas Jefferson Gardens & Welcome Center

The Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County in Jefferson, Iowa is a not-for-profit attraction dedicated to educating the public and honoring the agricultural heritage of the region. Featuring five unique gardens, it brings to life the prairies that welcomed the Lewis and Clark expedition and early settlers to Greene County. Visitors can explore the farming practices of Thomas Jefferson’s time, enjoy a children's garden, play with outdoor musical instruments, and experience much more. Our goal is to provide a space where all can appreciate the history, serenity, and beauty within our gardens. In addition to educational programs and workshops, the gardens and adjacent building are available for rent, making it an ideal location for private events, community gatherings, and weddings. Funded solely by donations, the Thomas Jefferson Gardens welcomes the support of the community to continue sharing the stories of early America and celebrating the region's agricultural legacy.
